CITY Hall will set up a committee to study the feasibility of issuing accreditation certificates to buildings that fit the ‘Intelligent Building’ status.

The committee will start by surveying the Klang Valley to see if such a building exists and will certify its existence by issuing a certificate.

Datuk Bandar Datuk Mohmad Shaid Mohd Taufek said City Hall would be teaming up with experts from the International Islamic University (IIU) on this project.

''An intelligent building is one that can inform its occupants on general information such as room temperature, time and date, offer greetings and even the weather report.

''The most important aspect about the intelligent building is that it should be able to fulfil the needs of the consumer or its occupants. It must also be compatible with out climate,'' he added.

The mayor said some building owners thought that their buildings were ‘intelligent’ when they were not.

''Once our research is done we will be able to determine whether their buildings are intelligent or not and we will give the official recognition if they deserve it,'' he added.

The committee will comprise 30 people including IIU experts led by Omar Jamaludin, a lecturer from the university’s architecture faculty, and City Hall director of planning and building control development director Chiam Soon Hock.

Work on the project will start immediately and is expected to be completed next year.
