| Bayou Bay project to attract middle-income earners [ 03/12/2002 ] |
BAYOU Bay Development Sdn Bhd (BBD), to be listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange in December, expects its residential project Taman Bayu Puteri in Johor Baru to attract middle-income earners.
Taman Bayu Puteri is a 55.2ha mixed development project, adjoining the Permas Jaya bridge, that is to be developed over an 18-year period by the company.
BBD launched its first 650 units last year which consist of both the five-storey walk-up type as well as the 13-storey apartment priced between RM107,800 and RM139,000.
Deputy chief executive officer Zahairi Abu said the township is expected to have a total population of over 200,000 and expected to record a total sales of RM7.8 billion upon its completion.
“The first launch in April 2001 received overwhelming response. The units were sold out within a four-month period,” he told Business Times in Johor yesterday.
The second launch of another 380 units this year had received good response from potential buyers, he added.
Zahairi said about 58 per cent of buyers for the phase one of the project are those working in Singapore.
He said the good response helped the company to garner a total sales of RM1.4 billion from the first launch.
The first phase of this development, billed as providing affordable homes within city limits, covered some 3.2ha.
Facilities provided include a swimming pool, recreational area and jogging tracks, 24-hour security service, convenience store, playground and a kindergarten.
