JOHOR BARU: A total of RM3.8bil worth of property was unsold since August, said state Housing Committee chairman Samat Aripin.
Out of the total of 15,925 housing units, he said, 10,827 units were property worth more than RM150,000 each, mainly in Kangkar Pulai and Taman Desa Tebrau here.
The remaining were 4,425 units of condominiums and apartments worth nearly RM1mil each and 673 units of low and medium cost houses costing between RM50,000 and RM80,000 per unit.
He said there were also 1,523 units of shophouses, 140 industrial lots and 18,000 sq ft of office space that were unsold.
''Despite efforts and campaigns carried out to sell the property, response from buyers is poor,'' he said after the state assembly sitting here yesterday.
Citing an example, Samat said a housing developer could only complete about 1,470 units of houses out of the 8,335 units since early this year after facing financial and labour constraints.
''We have also stopped the building of condominiums and apartments costing nearly RM1mil each unit as it was not practical during current market trend,'' he said.
At the assembly sitting, Freddie Long Hoo Hin (BN - Stulang) said ongoing training for English teachers had to be provided to enable them to master the language more effectively.
''There is no short cut in learning the language,'' he said.
