SP Setia Bhd is spending RM2mil on its environmental friendly drainage system for its on-going mixed development township project, Taman Setia Indah.

Its chairman Datuk Radzi Sheikh Ahmad said the drainage system project was a joint venture between SP Setia subsidiary Setia Indah Sdn Bhd and Majlis Bandaran Johor Baru (MBJB).

He said the drainage swale system, which allowed the flow of rainwater to be controlled, was the first to be introduced at any housing scheme in Johor.

Radzi said under the system, an underground pipe measuring about 1km in length would be constructed in the phase two of the 450-acre project.

He said the pipe would be concealed with earth and covered with grass. Rainwater passing through the canal system would be flowed into three retaining ponds.

''House buyers are becoming more discerning and expect some sort of value-added products or services from developers,'' he said at the launch of the drainage system project recently.

Radzi said it was more costly to maintain than the open system drain, but one should consider the benefits in the long-term.
