PUBLIC-LISTED Bina Darulaman Bhd (BDB) aims to fully complete its 890ha Bandar Darulaman satellite township near Alor Star in four years.

BDB managing director Dr Ku Abdul Rahman Ku Ismail said 607ha of the township had already been developed over the past 20 years with about 4,000 property units.

''We will develop the remaining 283ha by 2007,'' he said at last Saturdays launching of Bandar Darulaman's 20th anniversary celebration at the Darulaman Teachers Training College which is located in the township.

Kedah Housing, Local Government and Agriculture Committee chairman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah launched the celebration. Among those present at the launching was BDB chairman Datuk Paduka Mohd Saad Endut.

Ku Abdul Rahman said the township would have 10,000 housing units and a projected population of more than 50,000 people when fully completed.

It now has a population of 30,000, he said. Bandar Darulaman is developed by Darulaman Realty Sdn Bhd (DRSB), a wholly-owned subsidiary of BDB.

Ku Abdul Rahman said BDB had forecasted to build 20% or about 50,000 of the targeted 240,000 homes under the 10-year Kedah Maju 2010 Masterplan which was launched in September 2001.

He said the company would build these homes at Bandar Darulaman, Sungai Petani and Kuala Ketil.
