JB Waterfront City project to be scaled down [ 09/01/2003 ] |
THE Johor Government has cancelled the yet-to-be completed portion of the RM6bil JB Waterfront City project on a 28ha site in the Johor Straits.
Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said the existing portion of the project, comprising a commercial centre, would be maintained but the rest of the projects had been cancelled.
The proposed development affected included the construction of a hotel and condominium, he told reporters recently.
The 8ha area where development had been abandoned would be redeveloped into a commercial centre, he said.
Ghani said the steel piles driven into the sea, which have been disrupting water flow, would also be pulled out.
The floating city type project was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad in July 1996. It is undertaken by the Johor Coastal Development Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Pilecon Engineering Bhd.
